Western Civilization

Western Civilization from Egypt and Mesopotamia to European Renaissance and Reformation. Paradigm shifts from myth and magic to philosophy and science, from theocracy to democracy, from empires to national states and the heroic struggles for individual freedom in thought and spirit. Constant comparisons of ancient contests with modern challenges in the very same geographical settings. Strong emphasis on vocabulary acquisition and essay writing skills.

Italia-Sicilia

A full year interdisciplinary immersion course covering Italian and especially Sicilian history, art, music, particularly operas, and architecture from the hellenistic period ot the current European Union. Special emphasis will be given to the southern portion of the peninsula and the island of Sicily with its lively mix of Phoenician, Greek, Arab, Norman, Spanish and French traditions. Many classic Italian films will be screened and analyzed.

The 2008 Intersession trip will cover Sicily by bus and train from Palermo to Cefalu, the mountainous interior and Catania, Siracusa and the Mt. Etna towns in 14 days.

Junior Varsity Mens Soccer

Real " football " for the ambitious younger kicker and discriminating veteran seeking perfection of skills and aesthetic-athletic pleasure just below the varsity level of intensity. Daily scrimmages and weekly interscholastic games for those committing to the rigorous five-days-a-week soccer program.

Evenings: Savour ethnic cuisines,   Night:Ballroom Dancing : Live bands for Salsa, Swing, Tango, Zydeco, Samba, Greek xoroi.
