Welcome To The History of Russia

 This class is broken into two separate semester classes

First Semester: This course focuses on early Russia from the fall of the House of Rurik to the collapse of the Romanov Dynasty.
                           Emphasis is on the creation of the Russian state, the Romanov rulers and the issues that led to the fall of the   
                           dynasty. Required texts: A History of Russia by John Lawrence and Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak

Second Semester: This course focuses on the era of the Russian Revolution to the collapse of the Soviet Empire. Revolution,
                            Civil War,  Collectivization, Purges, The Great War, the Cold War and the fall of Communism are all topics
                             covered in this semester. Required texts: Russia in the Twentieth Century by M.K. Dziewanowski and One 
                             Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
