French Language

Sixth Grade

In Sixth Grade, level 1A, students begin their formal study of French.  As the class is taught primarily in French, the studentsŐ active participation is expected to demonstrate their growing comprehension of the spoken language.  The student use of the textbook is supplemented with creative projects and authentic French materials.  Equal emphasis is placed on the skills of writing, listening, speaking, and reading, giving all students the chance to succeed! Students develop their language skills through activities including skits, interviews, interactive games, group work, and songs.  Students also visit the computer lab approximately once a week to use the language software, do research on the internet, and visit sites appropriate to their age for learning French.  To further their cultural awareness, students will take in a French film, listen to French music, prepare and eat French food, and possibly go on a field trip. Sixth graders are not yet eligible to participate in the yearly France trip.
