ABOUT THE NCAA
The NCAA, or National Collegiate Athletic Association, is the most recognized collegiate athletic organization that
implements the rules and programs established by its vast membership of participating colleges.
The more than 1,250 members of the NCAA are divided into five
categories:
- active colleges and universities
- provisional colleges and
universities
- conferences
- affiliated organizations
- corresponding
members
The 1,024 active member schools self-determine which of three
divisions they will be classified in and must annually meet membership
criteria for that division:
- NCAA Division I (Ia and Iaa are only American Football designations)
- NCAA Division II
- NCAA Division III

Accustomed to smaller liberal arts-based private education, the majority of SSFS graduates tend to enter NCAA Division III colleges, though many choose to attend NCAA Division I colleges as well.
