 SSFS Soccer: Future

Rite of Passage

"There is a destiny which makes us brothers; None goes his way alone."
- Edwin Markham

The Rite of Passage Match has been a Men's Soccer tradition since 1996. Held typically the first week of November, and hosted by the Men's Varsity, an invitation is extended to the Middle School Boys Soccer Team to partake in a season finale intrascholastic game for their first time on the Upper School's coveted Preuss Field.

A symbolic event, the Rite of Passage Match is as much a recognition of the changing-of-the-guard as it is a tribute to those graduating seniors. As such, and following a collective warm-up and friendly first half that pits both squads against one another, half-time serves as a ceremonial passing-of-the-torch that sees the seniors come full circle and play the second half with the middle school team, and SSFS for one last time, and in return a select few departing middle school 8th Graders, soon to be upper-school-bound rising 9th graders, cross over to join the varsity.

Deliberately scheduled to follow the formal conclusion of each respective team's season, the Rite of Passage Match assures both teams a memorable, celebratory, and fitting end together as one fraternal program.
