Off-Season Training

Pursuing College Soccer

| "Nothing will work unless you do." |

- John Wooden

The secret to summer training is to enjoy it! Choose a goal, find
the motivation, find places to run that you like. Like a house
being built, a soccer player needs a firm foundation to build
on. A foundation of solid running. Always remember that a good
season does not just happen. To make it happen, you have to train
through the summer months. Below are important rules regarding
summer training:
- Running does not have to be fast, but
it does have to be consistent. Make it a part of your daily routine.
- Run in the mornings or evenings, but not
in the heat of the day.
- Your body needs fluids in order to keep
it cool, so drink plenty of water.
- Be good to your body and give it the fuel
it needs to perform by eating right and taking a multi vitamin
daily.
- Start off your training by running short
distances 1 to 3 miles, and slowly build up to 4 to 6 miles.
- As you begin to run, start off very slow.
Once your body warms up, you can pick up the pace.
- Stretch gently after you run.
-
Run in good running shoes.
Running is an inexpensive sport. Nevertheless, good running
shoes are a must.
