David Jones grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, and attended Sandy Spring Friends School. An avid traveler, David’s first extended trip to the Spanish-speaking world was after his sophomore year in high school, when he spent a month in León, México, as part of a language and soccer program. While at Sandy Spring, David also traveled to Puerto Vallarta, México, and Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic on intersession trips.
David went on to study Spanish and English at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. While at Bowdoin, David studied abroad for a semester in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After finishing his semester exams he went on a month-long trek through the Andes. Starting from the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia, he traveled up the Andes corridor on foot and by bus to Mendoza, a journey of over 1,500 miles filled with breath-taking views of mountain peaks and glaciers.
After graduating from Bowdoin, David returned to Buenos Aires, where he lived for another five months, further immersing him in the culture. David returns to Sandy Spring Friends School as part of the Upper School French & Spanish Department and in various coaching capacities. |
