SPAN 1
Composición #3

Mi opinión de los deportes

With a topic titled "My Opinion on Sports", I want you to write as much as as your basic Spanish 1 skills allow about athletics (i.e., identify, provide cultural background/popularity, describe your personal interest and ability, etc.).

You are asked to use the vocabulary from Chapter 5 (pp.162-163 and pp. 166-167), as well as the complementary grammar lessons (pp.170-171, p.172, and p.175), as a base (you may venture further, so therefore don't forget to incorporate the things you learned from the preliminary lessons up to the present, as well as the Cultural Lessons on pp.180 & 182) to prepare a typed, three paragraph, one-page composition in Spanish. It will likely be about three-quarters of a page of written material, not counting the header and title at the top.

In your introductory paragraph, talk about the different athletic opportunities available to you at SSFS. Think about organizing it into the different seasons, as a way to expand your written expression. What is required of students in terms of participation in athletics at SSFS? Are there any teams you like? Why or why not?

In your body paragraph, tell me what interests you and what you like versus what does not interest you and what you do not like. Using good and several descriptors, explain in each case why you feel this way. Elaborate.

In your concluding paragraph, start by telling me what it is you want to do athletically and why. Then use some of the expressions with the infinitive learned in Chapter 4 (e.g., tener que, ir a) to describe what you are going to play in the future and what you have to do to meet this goal.

  • must be typed
  • must be double-spaced
  • must have title (see above) - underlined and centered
  • one of the top corners must contain (single-spaced):
    • Your Name
    • Class (Español 1) & Period (Período ?)
    • My Name (Profesor David Jones)
    • Date (en español)
  • All diacritical marks must be done on computer (please refer to class webpage for explanation)
  • must be no larger than font size 12, using a standard font (e.g. Times Roman or Ariel)
  • must be one page - no more, no less (if it’s longer, edit it down)

Though not required, you are each highly encouraged to arrange a meeting with me to go over a draft to receive constructive criticism. You must set up an official time with me to sit down for this process, should you choose to take advantage of this opportunity.
