Candle Making 2007

Earth and Dream Mural 2007

Using resist, crayons, wax and watercolor paints, murals reflecting dreams were created for the holiday program.

Using paint, 1st graders created colorful banners for the Holiday program.

Painted Banners and MOD Art 2006-7

Using paint, dye, resist, crayons, markers and hands, colorful banners were made to be hung and enjoyed at various venues. Handprints also made colorful sails for the MOD celebrations.

 

 

M.C. Escher inspired Ceramic Carved Table - Auction 2007

The 4th and 5th graders made a ceramic table based on the tesselation design by MC Escher called "Peace Doves"

The fired birds are glued onto the table surface and cut pieces fill out the straight lines. Black grout will follow with a wrought iron base created by black smith artist Peter Austin.

Frank Stella inspired Sculptural Painting - Auction 2007

The 1st through 3rd graders helped to create a Frank Stella inspired painted sculpture for the 2006-7 auction. Starting by painting canvas into abstract colorful sections, details were added and then fluid shapes are cut and assembled.

Kandinsky Inspired Heart Collage

Studying the effect of one color next to another, colorful concentric hearts were created and made into a heartfelt collage.

Peace Doves 2006

For the holiday program, doves with positive and negative bubble letters and patterns were created with the word "Peace" in 74 different languages.

Candle Making 2006

All grades had the opportunity to come to the barn for a fun filled session making dipped candles. Walking around the room, singing holiday songs while dipping into the vat of melted wax, the candles quickly grew into long white tapers. Big guys helped little ones, and the difficult decision of yes glitter, no glitter concluded the day.

Friendly Loom Weaving 2006 - 7

A large communal weaving will be worked on over the course of the year, with any one interested taking a turn to add their own special touch to the large tapestry. Different weaving patterns, color combinations, knotting and bead decoration will be highlighted.

International Day of Peace Pinwheels 2006

All students had an opportunity to make a pinwheel for our celebration of the International Day of Peace. Writing words and wishes of peace on one side, the flip side was decorated with bright colors, pictures or patterns.

 

Candle Making 2005

Lots of wax, lots of song and lots of fun was the theme this year during our annual candle making extravaganza. Little guys being helped by bigger guys, dipping and walking round and round while singing, all helped to create fat beautiful candles for the holidays.

Holiday Program Scenery Winter 2005

Light light light.......how do different cultures and religions use light to represent the holidays? Light was the theme of this year's holiday program and all the kids worked to design the backdrop for the show. It was done in backlit silhouette and was a winter scene.

The Entire Lower School Community - Fall 2005

All the Lower School students and faculty helped created this composition by personalizing a puzzle piece which were then put together under the words of an often sung song.

ABSTRACT PANELS SPRING 2005

4th graders created large abstract panels, a la Matisse, for the art show highlighting their Chesapeake Bay Tiles.

CANDLEMAKING 2004

A yearly tradition is for the entire Lower School to create hand dipped candles for the holidays. Walking, dipping and singing has become a familiar happening in early December.

GLOBAL WORLD 2004

 

The 3rd graders created a global map working cooperatively. Using watercolor paint, the oceans and continents of the world were created in sections, each student researching their particular portion of the world. Animals and landscape details were added. This map became the background of the Winter Holiday program and will be used over the remainder of the year as a teaching tool.

PLACEMATS FOR GRANDFRIEND'S DAY

Using paper paste, the 4th graders went to town over many recess periods painting place mats for their grand friends who were going to have lunch with them.
